6. One Word Prompts:absence

A cold silence filled the cave as usual. For almost three hours she stood there in the dead center, just looking into the darkness.

There was that cold absence of laughter that usually filled it. There was no David, Dwayne. No Laddie. It sent a small shiver up the spine of her back as she tried to block it from her mind. She didn't know why she came here time and time again, perhaps it was to be close to what she once had and oddly something that she missed.

She never thought that silence could be so deafening. True, the saying was that, but she had somehow hoped it was wrong. Instead it was proving her right.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder, wasn't that the saying as well? Instead she found it was breaking it. She hated this, she hated the silence and she hated the fact that everything seemed wrong about what was going on. Something just didn't feel right.

Star, The Lost Boys, 162 words

4. Ficlet: You've lost something either very important to you, or that you absolutely need. Write a ficlet detailing your search for it. Were you successful?

Star searched through the caverns for the little boy, growing rather frustrated as the minutes seem to go by. She licked her lips, trying to coax him out again.

"Laddie, playtime is over, come out."

All she heard was the laughter that echoed through the caverns and she stopped, looking around.

"Laddie!"

That tone in her voice was one of a small bit of panic. She didn't like him hiding so long, it'd been almost two hours he needed to come out. Laddie heard that and then slipped from the shadows in the back.

"Sorry Star."

"Don't ever do that again." She wrapped her arms around him and kissed the top of his head. "Never do you hear me?"

"Yes Star."

She sighed softly and then led him back out.

"We don't belong here Laddie, let's go."
